To effectively differentiate for the learning needs in my classroom

 

Teaching Quality Standard Reference:

KSA 2 i)- There are many approaches to teaching and learning. They know a broad range of instructional strategies appropriate to their area of specialization and the subject discipline they teach, and know which strategies are appropriate to help different students different students achieve different outcomes

Strategies

  1.  Go to the U of L library and find some research on Montessori and differentiated learning

  2. Allow students to show their knowledge through different modalities in my lesson planning

Goal #2:

 

To effectively engage with technology in the classroom setting for the benefit of the students learning.

Teaching Quality Standard Reference:

KSA 2 j) The functions of traditional and electronic teaching/learning technologies. They know how to use and how to engage students in using these technologies to present and deliver content, communicate effectively with others, fine and secure information, research, word process, manage information, and keep records.

Strategies

  1. Look for areas in the program of study where technology could be used to enhance student learning.

  2. Practice and utilize the technology chosen before the lesson to have a better understanding of the technology.

Timeline

  1. Prior to practicum, after finding out subject areas I will be teaching, go through the program of studies to look for these areas.

  2. Prior to the lesson, ensure to have a good working knowledge of the technology I will be using.

Goal #3:

To Effectively include literacy cross-curriculum to enhance student learning

Teaching Quality Standard Reference:

KSA 2 d) Teachers understand the subject disciplines they teach. They have completed a structured program of studies through which they acquired the knowledge, concepts, methodologies and assumptions in one or more areas of specialization or subject disciplines taught in Alberta schools.

Strategies

  1. Look for areas within the curricula I will be teaching where I can employ literacy strategies that will be beneficial to student learning.

  2. Use literacy strategies (such as introducing a new topic with a book or story) in my lesson planning to ensure its use in my lessons.

Timeline

  1. During and before lesson planning.

  2. During implementation of lesson plans.

  1. Programs of study, research into literacy strategies.
